The Escape WIKIPEDIA
In 1849, Harriet and her brother's Ben and Harry escaped slavery, after her master Brodas died and the likelyhood of her being sold increased. But her brothers had second thoughts, and forced Harriet to come back with them. Soon afterward, she tried again.
Tubman's exact route is unknown, but she took the Underground Railroad. She traveled by night for about ninety miles until she reached her destination: Freedom. Once she crossed the Philidelphia lines, she was officially free. Later, Tubman said, ""When I found I had crossed that line, I looked at my hands to see if I was the same person. There was such a glory over everything; the sun came like gold through the trees, and over the fields, and I felt like I was in Heaven."
